Automotive Lighting Myths Debunked with SYLVANIA “Truth Sleuths” Video Series
SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting Debuts First Webisode to Coincide with Daylight Savings Time

AAPEX, Las Vegas, Oct. 30, 2012 – To mark the beginning of darker days and to shed some light on automotive lighting myths, SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting debuted the first video in its SYLVANIA “Truth Sleuths” series at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo 2012 (AAPEX). These webisodes take automotive lighting myths into the lab and out to the real world to find out what’s fact and what’s fiction.

The first video in the series explores what happens to a vehicle’s headlights over time – whether they dim with use or just burn out. Viewers are given a first-hand look at the differences between new headlights and worn headlights, both in the lab and on the road.

The series features SYLVANIA automotive lighting experts Greg Bibbo and Joe Swadel – who combined have 38 years of experience with bulbs, ballasts and beams – as they investigate common perceptions – and misconceptions – among consumers surrounding automotive lighting.

One finding is particularly surprising, even for the experts: They observed more than 300 feet in additional driving visibility – or about three more seconds of reaction time at highway speeds – with new vs. worn bulbs.

“Headlights are such an important safety feature on our vehicles, but there are a lot of drivers who might be in the dark about the performance of their headlights,” said Joe Verbanic, marketing manager, SYLVANIA Automotive Lighting. “We’re hoping the SYLVANIA Truth Sleuths video series will both educate and entertain viewers about automotive lighting, and set to rest some mistaken beliefs about headlights or validate other truths.”

The SYLVANIA Truth Sleuths series will continue with additional webisodes, and Facebook fans are encouraged to submit their questions and ideas on the myths that the sleuths should tackle next. Viewers can also follow the conversation on Twitter using the hashtag #SYLsleuths.
