Lighting Leader and Governing Member Registers Four LED and Controls Products Compliant with Standards for DC Power Distribution

Toronto, Ont. and Danvers, Mass. (October 4, 2011) – North American lighting leader, OSRAM SYLVANIA, is pleased to further demonstrate their commitment to the goals of the EMerge Alliance® with the announcement that four new Solid State Lighting products have successfully been reviewed and accepted as EMerge Alliance Registered Products. The Alliance promotes the rapid adoption of safe direct-current (DC) power distribution standards for commercial buildings, which will drive increased energy-efficiency, sustainable design, and flexible space utilization. The first SYLVANIA products to be included in the EMerge Alliance product registry are the Exterior Light Engine, HF2Chain (white), and HF2Narrow Stick LED modules and the OPTOTRONIC® OT DIM electronic LED control interface. These four products are compliant with the EMerge Alliance initial standard covering the Occupied Space in commercial buildings, which calls for power distribution at 24VDC. These SYLVANIA LED modules are designed for 24VDC operation, so are ideal for luminaires to be used in installations compatible with the EMerge Alliance standard, and the OPTOTRONIC OT DIM interface is one product in a family of control devices that is designed to optimally regulate LED sources.

The Exterior Light Engine (ELE) is stand-alone light engine, containing 14 LEDs, which can be combined with a number of housings and optics. Conformally coated to protect against dust, moisture, and condensation, it is easy to use in a variety of both indoor and outdoor applications. Available in 3500K, 4100K and 5500K, the ELE LED module is a 24VDC module available in several lumen output levels. Modules are designed for easy bi-level dimming operation and, when used in an EMerge installation, no additional power supply is required..

The HF2Chain LED (white) is a 24VDC high brightness LED module ideal for signage or contoured applications. HF2Chain LED modules offer a cost effective alternative to traditional white neon or cold cathode systems. The LED module offers the advantage reduced manufacturing and maintenance costs, durability and small size, in addition to resulting in a safe low voltage installation. The HF2Chain module consists of eighteen metal circuit boards, each with two high-flux LEDs, which are linked together by wires. This flexible configuration allows boards to be mounted as closely together as application illuminance and uniformity goals require, and creates an opportunity to guide lighting patterns around the tightest curves.

The HF2Narrow Stick is a compact high intensity LED module that is comprised of a closely packed array of small, discrete LEDs on boards under 5/8" wide. The dense LED spacing creates a virtually linear light source that may be extended by conveniently connecting them end-to-end using the integrated 2-pin connectors. SYLVANIA HF2Narrow Stick modules operated from 24VDC power and may be dimmed using the OPTOTRONIC OT DIM control interface. They may be easily designed into luminaires for ambient, accent, cove, edge and under cabinet lighting.

The OPTOTRONIC OT DIM electronic LED control interface is a compact, electronically stabilized unit that can operate with a range of input voltages, including the 24VDC power specified by the EMerge Alliance standard. The OPTOTRONIC OT DIM unit offers smooth flicker-free dimming down to zero percent via pulse width modulation and can receive input signals from 1-10V DC controllers. Offering short-circuit, overload and overheating protection, they are ideal for use in applications where variable light levels are desired for ambiance, comfort or energy savings.

The EMerge Alliance is a public industry association that promotes the implementation of safe, low-voltage DC power distribution in commercial buildings. Since its official launch in November of 2008, the alliance has worked diligently to address widespread needs for greater flexibility, efficiency and sustainability; leading the creation and deployment of new power, control and device-level technology standards. With this focus, the EMerge Alliance released its first EMerge Alliance Standard for Occupied Spaces at Lightfair International in 2009. The comprehensive standard integrates interior infrastructures, power, controls and peripherals, such as luminaires.
